The royal summary court sentences Sallai Imre and Fürst Sándor to death on charges of attempting to uproot the state and the social order. The film, the story of which takes place in 1932, enlarges the moment of delivering the death-sentence. Sallai, preparing for his death, envisions the people and the events that have been decisive for his life. He envisions physician of the army, Jurányi, a martyr of the "white" terror after the revolution, who recalled his childhood before his death. This is how he remembers his own youth: he sees exhausted, pieta-like workers, the religious girl coming to the rescue of the helpless deserter from the army, the interrogating officer. Then 1919. The freeing of the Kelédys, the fanatic white. He then starts out towards the execution stand, professing his faith in the coming world revolution in the last few seconds of his life.
