Famous singing cowboy Gene Autry plays a Texas Ranger who decides to join the US Cavalry when the Texas Rangers are dissolved. His loyal sidekick friends Smiley Burnette and Max Terhune go with him. Colonel Summeral wants peace at all costs with the indians but mysterious Chief Tavibo has a plot in mind to ambush a supply train full of ammunition.
