English I don't mind that I've seen a similar plot somewhere else; after all, you can't endlessly come up with something new. Coincidentally, the idea of a black woman falling in love with a white man and bringing him home to show her burly dad isn't bad at all. Unlike many other American comedies, Guess Who possesses quite intelligent humor, and the acting trio of Ashton Kutcher, Zoe Saldana, and Bernie Mac is a joy to watch. When I add to that the relaxing music that accompanies the plot, I have basically no reason to criticize this romantic film. (70%) ()

English Although half of the characters annoyed me, I am relatively satisfied within the genre of semi-barbaric romantic comedy. Kutchera is always laid back and Bernie Mac has a well-written role. Even though in movies where more than half of the characters are of black complexion, I usually suffer due to constant shouting, this is an honorable exception. The best part is, of course, when the two main guys reconcile and brainstorm a plan, the rest doesn't quite catch on, the rest of the plot often doesn't quite catch on either. ()

English The only "original" idea that keeps this film from being interchangeable with many other identical films about a future son-in-law versus his future father-in-law is the issue of race. The film was supposed to be a comedy, and I really struggled to find humor in it. I guess I'm just not that good at searching. I originally wanted to give the film at least one star, but the ending full of singing, dancing, and melodrama made me change my mind. / Lesson learned: Before you go for it, make sure it's worth it.
