Plots(1)

Four new fairy tales “for clever children and clever adults” from the much loved book by Jan Werich. Břetislav Pojar presents Tom Thumb, a picturesque story full of twists and adventures; Aurel Klimt brings three similar brothers to life in Hunchbacks from Damascus, a work which evokes the atmosphere of the Near East and an oriental narrative style; in Three Sisters and One Ring, Vlasta Pospíšilová employs a rustic instruction manual `a la The Decameron – how to fool a husband out of a ring; and Jan Balej allows brothers Marek and Kouba to explain a natural phenomenon and to relive the age-old fairy tale about envy and devils in The Sea, Uncle, Why is it Salty? English Each of the "Fimfárum" movies earns 50% just for featuring Jan Werich's words in their original form, as spoken by the legendary actor himself. Werich's voice and his performance are so unique that it's a big part of what makes the movies truly great pieces. But it's also the animation that adds its charm. As I mentioned in the first movie, it's the animation that beautifully complements the atmosphere. It's not the case every time, but with someone like Klimt, you can be sure that he adds a lot of his own to the work and adjusts the atmosphere exactly as he wants. In this case, his story "The Hunchbacks of Damascus" is presented essentially as a horror, which again is not a bad thing. Even Werich's fairy tale is not kind. "Fimfárum 2" is not as much of an experience as the first movie, but it is still a significantly above-average film that captivates the viewer who is open to less conventional films, both live-action and animated. English The question "Why is sea salty, Uncle?" forms the strongest pillar of this sincere effort to continue the Fimfarum project. Unfortunately, with each new film in the series the puzzle falls apart more and more, and today I can say that two films would have been more than enough. ()
