Summer, 1945. Japan's defeat is nearing. Sub-Lieutenant Kakita, Kurosaki (Yujiro Ishihara), and two noncommissioned officers, Kuba and Imanishi, gather at a naval base that is located in the Seto Inland Sea. The base was designed for one purpose: to train these young men to maneuver the Kaiten, the ‘suicide torpedo’. The four train intensely, knowing that their destinies would be sealed in a few more days. Before the day of the mission, each returns home to say their final farewells to their loved ones.
