Plots(1)

This historic saga, the fourth in James Fenimore Cooper's series of "Leatherstocking" tales, captures the drama of the struggle between the French and the English, with their respective Indian allies, for a contested North American wilderness during the French and Indian wars.
Once again Cooper's noble hero, Natty Bumppo, the Pathfinder (Kevin Dillon) is pitted against the unforgiving elements, amidst an atmosphere of political treachery. Beautiful Mabel Dunham and her uncle Cap are rescued from Indian attack and raging waterfalls by the Pathfinder, along with his adopted father, Chingachgook (Graham Greene), and Jasper Western. Fleeing through the spectacular Niagara Gorge and escaping an Indian ambush, they reach the safety of Fort Oswego on the Lake Ontario shore, where Mabel is reunited with her father, Sgt. Dunham. The respite is short-lived. Pathfinder and Jasper are dispatched on a mission across the storm-raked lake to help relieve a beleaguered British outpost, accompanied by Mabel--who has won both their hearts--and her father, Sgt. Dunham. A ferocious French attack, aided by a turncoat officer, is beaten back and the outpost is saved, though this climactic night-and-day battle costs Dunham his life. Pathfinder loses Mabel to Jasper, but realizes his true destiny. With his father, Chingachgook, he returns to the freedom and the challenge of the wilderness that is his life.
