András, deputy officer with Agriculture, joint-stock company, serving guests at a party, mistakenly puts on the same tie as the guests are wearing. Korompay, president of the company and an honorary guest, thinks he is a key person working for the joint-stock company. Korompay seems to like him very much. Korompay himself is a key person in deciding whether a large sum of loan is to be offered. The director general sends András to the country, where the estate owned by the company is, to work as a bailiff there. The young man, who has a thorough knowledge of country life himself coming from a village, is committed to farming and is upset when he realizes that director Richter has intentionally got the farm into a miserable financial situation through bailiff Demeter, his own man, in order to be able to buy it cheap as a unprofitable piece of land. He gets down to work immediately to get things going on the farm, although the director and his man are anything but enthusiastic about his plans. He is supported by the director general. Richter and Demeter are dismissed. András is appointed bailiff, and has Kató, a young woman, working for the company as a secretary as his companion. (official distributor synopsis)
