“The Prostitute” treats the problem of prostitution as a social phenomenon in Russia in a naïve at times amusing language. Three female characters and their lives are intertwined to show “the only right way” to the audience. The husband of the protagonist Nadezhda dies. She is left alone with two children, one of whom is seriously ill. Life gives Nadezhda no other option except for sex trade. In 2018 at the IFF in Tromso the restored version was screened with the original music accompaniment by the Russian-Norwegian group of musicians. (Moscow International Film Festival)
