When Sarah (Neve Campbell) strikes up a conversation with a sad-eyed man called Alex (William H. Macy) at her therapist's office, she asks, "Are you one of those middle-aged guys who's tired of his marriage and thinking maybe a beautiful young thing could help him out?" She's right, but the source of Alex's depression is far from typical: he's a second-generation hit man who wants out, but his mom and dad won't let him quit. (official distributor synopsis)

English Ageing Alex is experiencing the typical crisis of a middle-aged man. He is bored with his wife, feels burned out, and has a dislike for his job. He tries to deal with his frustration in a way that is popular in America - by visiting a psychotherapist. There he meets a woman who attracts him from the very first moment. Up until this point, we would be in the realm of traditional family films and their usual resolutions, except that Alex is a hired killer and both of his parents have been in the same business for many years. Without this twist, which is only used sparingly, it would be an endlessly used theme and execution. It's an unassuming film with unoriginal directing and a very average screenplay that is saved only by the cast and performances, led by William H. Macy. Overall impression: 50%. ()
