The plan to set up a fake factory in Albania fails when Italian businessman, Gino loses a carefully selected “director” of the factory – an old man named Spiro who runs away. The man without a family spent decades in a communist prison and all he wants is to go home. It is only later that Gino finds out about the old man's difficult life, but by that time, they are already in the middle of nowhere, with almost no financial means and no prospect of profit from the scam business. The film portrays an individual helpless against a political regime, describing the hopeless situation of a country destroyed by both fascism and communism, as well as the desperation and poverty of common people who believe in a brighter future everywhere except in their homeland.
