English I of course do not want to disparage the topic of the film, which is still topical and deserves to be brought to attention... But something bothered me terribly about Nevěsta - from my point of view, it was Markéta Zinnerová's completely unbelievable script. She wrote each character as a hard-to-believe caricature (the only thing missing was the monstrous Vladislav Beneš eating small children, and the good-guy Miroslav Vladyka rescuing kittens from burning houses), and peppered their dialogues and inner monologues with many wise words like "a woman is like a cat", "she carries it inside her like a burden" and statements about "broken chains" and "imprints of the past"... Plus the unusually annoying music by Petr Hapka... Not great.__P.S. The sequel is a bit better and more real, thankfully, although the characters still speak in too much pretentious literary language. ()
