The ill-fated romance between King Henry VIII of England and his second wife, Anne Boleyn, is recounted. The king's (Richard Burton) obsession with siring a male heir gives rise to his abandonment of wife Catharine of Aragon, in favor of the young Anne (Genevieve Bujold) and, ultimately, the formation of the Church of England. English Another unique historical affair with Richard Burton (I recently saw Becket) and of course not only with him. Geneviève Bujold as Anne Boleyn is his equal counterpart, so equal that it surprised me. Both actors gave their absolute all to their characters, making the king and queen believable in every scene, in every mood... And the same is true of the rest of the cast, although the central duo overshadows its members. There is passion, love, disappointment, hope, fear - there is probably no emotion that is not present in Anne of the Thousand Days. An amazing spectacle.__P.S. Great TV dubbing from 1977. Richard Burton with the voice of Luděk Munzar is a safe bet. ()
