John Cleese's Personal Best

If we ignore the superfluousness of this compilation that nobody really needs, we see that it is a successful cross-section of the best scenes and sketches to come out of Monty Python. The idea of releasing something like this is a big “Boo!". However, this takes nothing away from the genius of this humor that oozes with wit, absurdity and originality. (01/31/2007)

The benefit of this DVD is clear: 1) Happy Valley Fairy Tale. Hailing from Fliegender Zirkus, this surreal Monty Python "fairy tale" with Prince Cleese, Queen Chapman, King Jones, ugly Palin, ultra-pretty Idle and others had me laughing to tears. 2) Interview with 96-year-old Cleese, who, as a toothy, grumpy old man, lounges by the pool and "likes" everyone as only he can. As for the MP sketches, they are well chosen. But it was hard to get it wrong when compiling them.__P.S. Chapman's Best of is the best overall, Cleese's definitely the funniest. (09/24/2010)
