Don't Fall Asleep!

Given that it’s an amateur effort, it’s actually great and from it radiates the author's love for everything bad. The film features Tarantino-like film and comic book references, the end credits à la Rodriguez, the ambiguous ending referring to Cronenberg... essentially, the incredible amount of films that the authors have seen only benefits the film. It’s too bad that the leads lack charisma (I didn't even believe the guy when he was on the phone and the woman reminded me of an unpopular class idiot) and the crappy sound, which is especially frustrating in the opening conversation. Yet the cinematography and editing (which the director uses to build functional tension) are very good, and the minimalist music from Carpenter's synth is the cherry on top. I want a regular 90-minute film to be made from this, whose quality will be tested on the big screen! (01/02/2008)
