Chris Massoglia stars as Darren, a 14-year-old boy who unintentionally disrupts a 200-year ceasefire between two rival vampire gangs. Darren is then drawn into a world of sideshow freaks and creatures of the night, disappearing from his ordinary life into a place of nightmares where he must face his fate - a fate which leads him to a vampire named Larten Crepsley (John C. Reilly) who turns him into a half-human, half-vampire. He joins the bearded lady (Salma Hayek) and larger-than-life barker (Ken Watanabe) in the touring sideshow 'Cirque du Freak' while he moulds his newfound powers. However, it is not long before the vampires and their deadlier adversaries begin to use him as a pawn as their impending war lurks ever closer. Darren must fight to keep what is left of his humanity before it is taken away forever. (Universal Pictures UK)

English I probably had expectations too different from what I ultimately got. I thought this would be fun, that it would be different, that it would approach the vampire myth humorously, maybe even satirically, but this is just boring, with very good actors, but even they can't save the fact that this is basically Fright Night for kids. English Decently made but awfully annoying horror for kids. I don’t know how the book tells the story, but I would have preferred it to be adapted in any other way than in this adolescently superficial one. Besides, this type of overcooked fantasy where anything can happen because there are no rules pisses me off in general. ()

English I don't know the book, so (perhaps fortunately) I can't compare them, but: All of the monsters that appeared in the film were really interesting (it's a pity that some of them didn't get more space), with Reilly's vampire being the best, followed by Dafoe, Salma Hayek and Jane Krakowski (I could watch these two all the time). The main character is such a typical teenager who comes to happiness and moral lessons, while the rest of the characters (except for two memorable villains) are worthless. Including those demented parents. I liked the music, the special effects and the visuals are decent... It works perfect as relaxation. Undemanding fun with some really good jokes by John C. Reilly. Three and a half = above average. ()
