One of those nice films that actually has everything in it - within the bounds of possibility a novel, well acted and directed story set in an unconventional environment, a colorful retro atmosphere, sensational actors, humor, suspense and romance. It was great to see Joe Pesci in a big role again, which he clearly enjoyed, and all credit goes to Helen Mirren, who played the brothel owner with incredible grace and elegance, all while making sure that the relationship that awakens between her and the young boxer is as believable as possible. Not a groundbreaking film, but it is of a high standard. Four and a half.
