Rivers of Babylon

The film is based on a Slovak best-selling novel of the 1990s bringing a sarcastic simile of the rise of an individual to power. It is a story of a simple-minded, mysterious and brutal man called Rácz who comes to work in a hotel basement in the capital. He builds a career and gains financial and political power. This is the background of the exciting, foolish, dramatic and tragic situations between Rácz and the characters that come into his way. Nothing can stop him on his way to achieve his goals. He gains the support and respect of the people around the hotel without revealing his real face or identity. The film is a bitter metaphor saying that every person who does not resist evil becomes part of it. (official distributor synopsis)
