Set in a suburb of north-east Paris between December 1935 and July 1936 during the "revolutionary" period of the Popular Front (who introduced the first paid holidays and a shorter working week). Three unemployed performers decide to take over by force the music hall where they worked a few months earlier and stage a show there. (official distributor synopsis)

Paris 36 is a truly magical film. It enchants via its accurate period atmosphere, the frivolous setting of a left-wing Bohemia, and the propaganda caricatures and naked female silhouettes so popular in their time as a perfectly natural part of the outlook in a better society. I'm thrilled and I applaud Pierre Richard, whose presence made sure I’d watch the film. As well as the newly-emerging star Nora Arnezeder, who has already managed to create a respectable little box in retro dramas. Those who understand it will appreciate it.
