English White Night Wedding is a malicious film. Malicious in the way that its story takes place over the course of one year, during which different temporal levels intertwine without any warning, making it quite difficult for the uninformed viewer to navigate the story and the characters. Moreover, the film is at times just as indecisive and annoying as its main protagonist, who is confused about himself and his desires. However, it does have the melancholic atmosphere of raw Nordic landscapes and several interesting characters who manage to hold the viewer's attention and create a tragicomical story, where despite the absurd scenes and behavior, you somehow believe in their emotions and actions, at least I did. Viewers accustomed to laid-back films may have a bit of a problem with the tragicomic tone, and, I would say, the ending, which is not exactly idyllic and romantic. As the main protagonist himself says, only a fool can be happy for more than 10 minutes... Overall impression: 60%. ()
