English This dismal crime drama condemns the horrifying amount of sexual violence committed against women in Mexico. A determined policewoman, corrupt lawyers, a naïve young couple falling in love but also succumbing to hate and self-destruction, an indifferent and corrupt governor, a radio host commenting on the local situation... The film can evoke Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic through its setting and large number of characters, but it is a purely Mexican endeavor that is not and maybe even doesn’t want to be as ferocious and exciting as American thrillers. Even with its slightly tedious and lengthy narration, however, there are some strong moments that will not leave the viewer cold. A strong three stars. ()
