Plots(1)

Leslie Nielsen sets out to do for 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY what he did for the police procedural in THE NAKED GUN. Aliens from the planet Vegan have replaced the U.S. President (modelled on Bill Clinton) with a clone, and the authorities call on International Security Force member Marshall "Dick" Dix (Leslie Nielsen) to head out into the stars and rescue him before all of the world's leaders meet a similar fate. On Vegan, Dix learns that the planet's denizens have learned English by watching television and speak in the voices of Hollywood stars. With the help of a sexy officer (Ophelie Winter) and a master of disguise (Ezzio Greggio), Dix attempts to restore the president to his rightful place and prevent any further interplanetary conflicts. English Leslie Nielsen is putting the effort in... but unfortunately, he's the only one. I give one star for a couple of good jokes (the title scene, the demented destruction of the moon base model, “In the NAVY" by the Three Tenors), which are woefully few. ()

English I know I'm supposed to judge either the positives or the shortcomings of a film here, but in this case I'd rather keep it straight and direct: avoid this crap, because you won't be missing anything. And if you like Leslie Nielsen, get any other of his comedies, because all of them are 100% better, funnier and more tolerable than this one. ()
