Plots(1)

On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. Now, the six surviving members reunite upon the news of their father’s passing and must work together to solve a mystery surrounding his death. But the estranged family begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse. The Umbrella Academy is based on the comic book series created and written by Gerard Way, illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics. (Universal Pictures UK)

English A superhero series where the main characters use their powers minimally. It has a decent concept and unusually weird characters with even weirder villains that didn't sit well with me at all. Story-wise, the series is engaging and there are a few unexpected twists and turns, but what disappointed is the distinct lack of action and the slower pace. I finished the last episodes more out of obligation than with enthusiasm. Disappointing. Favourite character: number 5. 60% ()

English After what they did in episode six, I wanted to bite the creator in anger, but on the other hand, I laughed at the cynical joke for quite a long time, and from this episode until the end, Umbrella Academy didn't have a single mistake. Not that it was missing anything from the start, but it really stepped on the gas in the second half. This series has made me very happy mainly with how different it is, how strange it is... And how the otherness and weirdness endured to the very end. As in the book, there are a lot of things going on here, but it doesn't mean you will get an explanation right away. Just like in the book, the characters here are superbly incongruous, full of their own traumas, with complicated interrelationships... When they want to, they entertain you, they make you feel, and there's no shortage of surprises. And for those who know the books and are looking forward to Poga... Go ahead and look forward! ()
