Near the turn of the century a couple (George C. Scott & Trish VanDevere) and their young son (Lee Montgomery) is shipwrecked on a remote island. Now resigned to the fact they will never be rescued, John teaches his young son David how to survive on his own, instilling in him pretentious credo that the strong dominate the weak. Years pass and David (now played by John Carson) reaches manhood, feels he is the stronger man and that he should be ruler of the island and the only woman, his mother, should be his.
