The year is 1996 - The Cold War has followed humanity to the stars. As part of a program to cultivate the next generation of spacefarers, a group of students is sent to the UN’s Research Base on Mars. Shortly after the students arrive, a blue mechanized assault weapon files over the base with a trio of unidentified pursuers hot on its heels. The facility is destroyed in the ensuing scuffle, leaving only a handful of survivors in its wake. A young man named Eiji appears before the survivors, revealing himself to be the pilot of the blue weapon - the SPT Layzner. However, he also comes bearing a warning: the Earth is in danger.
