Every year Max (François Cluzet), a successful restaurant owner, invites his family and friends to his beautiful beach house. But this year the vacation is not all fun in the sun as each guest raises the veil that for years has covered their true feelings. Some viewers might find this hugely long movie a five-star affair. But they would have to have the patience of a saint to survive Canet’s tendency to over-use songs (that he probably thinks are mood-making), stuffing them into the movie every ten minutes and on principle letting them play until the end. But they don’t advance the movie at all. And they are unnecessary and take up a lot of time; but despite annoying me, they didn’t spoil the overall impression.
