Henri Storck called Histoire du Soldat Inconnu a montage d‘actualité. Edited in Eistenstein’s spirit, it makes up an ironical compilation of news images, thereby demonstrating the arbitrariness and pointlessness of war. It is one of the first anti-war films. Although the sound film had already been introduced, Storck chose to make the film without any sounds or music. The charged silence lends further strength to the effective repetitions of certain moments in history. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
