Jirka is a composer, his wife, Jana, a pianist. Jana would like to have an own concert, but so far she has only been selected to accompany Valenta during his concerts in Budapest. After some resentments, she accepts the proposal. In Budapest, because of an unexpected accident, Jana is able to give a concert of her own, and is successful. The concert organiser likes the young woman, and invites her to be her guest for one more week. But Klári is rather busy, and therefore asks her husband to take care of the foreign woman. Initially the man sees his task as a burden, but they get friendly in the end. They kiss, then say good-bye, both at a loss. The husband tells Klári what has happened. They argue, but make peace. Jana returns home. She is successful at a hearing. Jirka awaits her lovingly, and her career takes off. (official distributor synopsis)

English A charming co-production melodrama, which is carried entirely by the tender performance of the beautiful Jana Brejchová. I have a soft spot for Jana, and I can understand the civil story of a young marriage based on the (un)practicality of two artists. But what is also really interesting is the attractive co-production with Hungary. And it is simply a small miracle to see Jana carefully representing Czechoslovakia in cooperation with the USSR, East Germany, West Germany, Austria, etc. She never had a great international career, unfortunately, but it's an interesting overview. Now I find myself still longing for another Hungarian film with Jana, after Recovery, and then hopefully I'll be satiated. ()
