Plots(1)

Ingrid Bergman is spellbinding as the 15th century French peasant girl who rouses a nation and inspires the world with her faith and bravery. Fiercely believing that she is directed by God, Joan triumphantly leads an army into battle against the British, who are driven from France. When a new king (Jose Ferrer) is crowned, Joan's influence grows and makes him wary of her power, ultimately betraying her to martyrdom. (official distributor synopsis)

English I didn't particularly like this treatment. Leaving aside the fact that Ingrid just doesn't look 19, it's a film that's actually too religious, even if the ending is a classic critique of fanaticism with horrifying consequences. But even that scene of burning isn't really there properly. No, this is just average for me, which is mainly due to good cinematography and set design. ()
