English Dances with Wolves light, without that film’s value as a statement on history and its poetic depth, and without a single dramatic moment. The beautiful exteriors are pleasing, but I expect a stronger story from a live-action feature-length film. That it involves a nice, simple story from the life of the given tribe in the given exotic land doesn’t count in my opinion. Unlike Himalaya, which had philosophical reach, magical music, more distinctive characters and at least one chilling scene (crossing the lake with a heard of yaks), Wolf has a story reminiscent of a TV movie for kids, broadcast at nine o’clock on a Saturday morning.
