Deep below snowy, cobblestone streets, tucked away in networks of winding subterranean tunnels, lives a civilization of hardworking mice, terrified of the bears who live above ground. Unlike her fellow mice, Celestine is an artist and a dreamer – and when she nearly ends up as breakfast for ursine troubadour Ernest, the two form an unlikely bond. But it isn't long before their friendship is put on trial by their respective bear-fearing and mice-eating communities. (GKIDS)

English A likeable animated film from a Belgian-French production, dominated by the unconventional relationship between the big grumpy Ernest and the low-key mouse Celestina. Their friendship clashes with prejudice, narrow-mindedness and convention, but that can't stop this seemingly disparate duo. What we get is a wonderful story with unusual animation that could easily be applied from the animal world to the human one. The film alternates between funny and more serious sequences, both of which are used effectively. All in all, a pleasant eighty minutes spent with a film that particularly benefits from the art and theme. ()
