Yeah, at times it's pretty funny, and you can see that it rides the wave of popularity of crude teen comedies that started to appear more frequently around the turn of the millennium. It's not surprising; the romance in it is almost unnecessary. Without it, the character of Van Wilder would still function, maybe even better. It's sort of indebted to classic romantic comedy frameworks.
