No, Showgirls isn't a great film, but compared to what passes for its sequel, it's actually a masterpiece. Incredibly overwrought, yet not even bizarre - it’s just a plain stupid spectacle, stretched out for almost two and a half hours. Watching this is pure torture, that's all there is to it.
