The Draymen Housing estate has become an urban legend. Whispers of rampant drug use, murderous teenager gangs and shocking acts of ferocious violence serve to keep even the police out after dark. When two student filmmakers visit the estate intent on debunking the myths surrounding the insular neighbourhood, they discover that reality is much worse than the rumors led them to believe. Under the thrall of a new strain of super addictive weed, the residents of The Drayman estate have developed a taste for more than just junk food and as the munchies hit, our two documentarians find themselves on the run and on the menu! English Very good neighbourhood. For me this film is eager rather than actually good, but that’s also appreciated. It aims in the right direction and its attempt to demonise socially pathological phenomena and their effects on a closed community are nice, interestingly delivered, and necessary (though it’s done ad absurdum – you can’t “leave” the neighbourhood and packs of young addicts chase the protagonists through the streets screaming like monkeys). But, as other users have pointed out, the movie starts to grind around the middle, which is a pity, it had more potential. Nevertheless, a cautious thumbs up. ()
