Gerry’s year is off to a great start as he is finally given an opportunity to coach the varsity boys’ basketball team. He is pleasantly surprised to learn that his new position brings lavish gifts from the father of one of his new players, Eddie. Gerry then finds himself in an awkward position as it quickly becomes apparent that Eddie is a terrible basketball player, his Russian father has quite an intimidating reputation, and that these gifts are really bribes meant to earn Eddie more time on the court. Meanwhile, it’s Lisa’s birthday and Trudy has given her a surprisingly expensive and thoughtful gift, as Dwyer puts on a brave face and smiles through an increasingly terrible day. (CBC Television)
