"I understand. Here... Socialism. Executions... Unpopular, huh? People here prefer to go to the movies. But we don't have a movie theatre. What should we do? The people want entertainment." An interesting film combining bold satire, poking at the state apparatus (the differences between the republic and the monarchy, allusions to secret services, executions and surveillance, the bureaucratic circle that the King completes at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), with a series of misunderstandings, confusions and mistakes, which, thanks to the best comedy actors of the time, can still entertain today. Particularly charming is the character of Vlastimil Brodský, a 100% phlegmatic sausage chewer. And the ending with the chair ("What's that for, permanently?" - "Yes, it's permanent.") and the grandmother ("Damn you, fool!")... Well done. ()
One of Martin Frič's biggest fails. The film has a strange script and a strange way of guiding actors. The visual with Ester Krumbach's monogram. A dead end in every respect. However, I could understand Sovák's expectation of doing another interesting film after Darbujan and Pandrhola, but on the other hand, I regret that Martin liked Bohdalová so much. ()
