Meteora

Meteora is a Byzantine monastery situated on the top of the sandstone mountains in central Greece. The community's life is bound by strict rules which are disrupted by the mutual affection between a young monk named Theodoros, and Urania, a nun of Russian origin. Their intimate encounters increasingly contrast with the ascetic customs of the monastery, which forces both protagonists to re-evaluate the direction of their lives. The second feature film by the promising Greek director, Spiros Stathoulopoulos, captures the meditative landscape with remarkable sensitivity, and the detailed and deep portrayal of both characters is enriched with well-thought animated passages with spiritual themes.
