Twilight Portrait

Marina is a social worker whose seemingly perfect life is haunted by emptiness. Her grey existence radically changes its direction after several Moscow policemen sexually abuse her. Angelina Nikonova, directing her first film, observes with detachment the illogical behavior of the raped woman, keeps the story provocatively ambiguous, and develops the story of never-ending violence an all-embracing apathy in a subdued atmosphere. The realistic style, usage of subtle details and the episodic character of the plot compose a dark mosaic of the dysfunctional Russian society from which there seems to be no escape. (Febiofest)
