Plots(1)

A peaceful village wakes up one day before Christmas when its native son - young man called Karel - comes back home from abroad, where he was apparently doing very well. Karel would be a good catch for all the local girls, who are so eager to marry him that they lay siege to his cottage. Karel, though, wants to avoid tying the knot, so his brother comes up with the idea to give the marriage-hungry girls tasks impossible to fulfill. Marushka's spoiled sister Kvyeta would also like to get married, so her step-mother forces Marushka to fulfill the difficult tasks instead of Kvyeta. What is Marushka to do? Who can help her gather violets and strawberries and bring an old apple tree to life when it's winter? (Zlín Film Festival)

English Ha, the Stonehenge mystery has been solved! I expected only the worst from Karel Janák... And this time it wasn't complete garbage. Although the atmosphere was a rip-off of Three Nuts for Cinderella, the stepmother and her stepsister seemed to have arrived on a pig-drawn sleigh straight from Frosty, but there were some pros in the film. First of all, we have the representative of Maruška, an unassuming, very pretty and natural girl. I also liked the cinematography, which really enjoyed the snowy exteriors and produced quite impressive scenes together with the musical accompaniment. It is a pity that the fairy tale was too clamorous, as is usual with Czech fairy tales of late, and that the whole "grand" finale was really ridiculous. Two and a half stars, purely average. I'm rounding down the day after watching it. ()
