Rahima (23) and Nedim (14) are orphans of the Bosnian war. They live in Sarajevo, a transitional society that has lost its moral compass, including in the way it treats children of the people who were killed fighting for the freedom of their city. After crime-prone adolescent years, Rahima has found comfort in Islam and she hopes her brother will follow in her footsteps. Everything becomes more difficult the day Nedim gets into a fistfight at school with the son of a local strongman. This incident triggers a chain of events leading Rahima to discover that her young brother leads a double life... (Pyramide Distribution)

English User dzira’s review brought to me the idea of whether such movies are even popular in the Balkans. A movie like this does appear every now and then and mostly it’s trying objectively to look at what hasn’t properly healed yet. Rahima is a Muslim, Nedim is a rebellious Balkan guy. They are both connected through family but divided by their different outlooks on life. Children of Sarajevo is trying to think about how it’s possible that there are still so many people in the Balkans who haven’t got used to living alongside Muslims. Well and now the entire Western Europe is paying the price as well. I doubt it will ever get better. The Balkans are a clear case in point. The attitude to life there is so different that it cannot simply be interconnected and accepted. ()
