This “best” cut of the musical Moulin Rouge is a poem “about love”, rediscovered and confirmed in waves of images altered by shifting the point of view onto the movie screen, and stripped of their romantic pathos. A virtuoso montage of details focuses the story on the interplay of the two main characters, with the Czech subtitles emphasizing the words – sometimes barely audible, more hidden than visible, sometimes with clear meaning, all in a compelling composition with inverted fragments of the songs.
