Professor Tamássy Péter, a famous surgeon, has been in love with Szegedy Judit, a young and talented actress, but, being a married man, his emotions are kept a secret. Finally, he decides to confide the secret to his love, but it is too late now: Judit has, in the meantime, got married, having waited in vain for his confession and is now the loving wife of János. Péter, despaired, becomes a draftee. On the battlefield he meets János, now a seriously wounded soldier. He performs a successful operation on his rival, while enemy bombs are being dropped onto the area. He thus saves János, but loses his vision in the act. This tragic event is followed by acts of self-sacrifice: the faithful wife provides vision for her husband with her mere existence, while the beautiful actress is ready to renounce both her husband and her career. Péter is unwilling to accept the latter option and decides to stick by his wife. (official distributor synopsis)
