A psychoanalytical grotesque by Oskar Reif about a wimp of a man completely terror-stricken by the world of women. Highly stylized, wide-screen black-and-white cinematography, expressive acting performances, and a touch of Fellini created for the 1990s an entirely un-Czech film. (official distributor synopsis)

English This is indeed a "Czech porn tragedy." The authors aptly chose this slogan themselves. However, it's definitely not an attack on the Winter Palace. Formally, it does put the effort in, but what good is a love of black and white Cinemascope when content-wise it garbage, and it’s also not saved by the fact that it was admitted later that it’s 90% autobiographical. Personally, I perceive this film positively only due to the participation and acting performance of Sylva Langová - Williams, who has truly interesting entrances and costumes, excluding that of the Italian legionaries. For me, The Bed remains as much of an unfinished and unsuccessful a film as Menzel's Crime in the Night Club, which was also trying to do something else. Of course, in the case of Crime in the Night Club, the author already questioned his conscience, whereas here the authors are still patting themselves on the back; but thanks to this fact, at least a technically excellent DVD was released. I wish a more meaningful film had been released with such care. Alternatively, such diligence should be divided among more acceptable films. ()
