The Boxtrolls reminded me of Tim Burton's stop-motion animated films or Coraline in its appeal, but compared to them, it loses in the story and, in fact, the visuals. The main villain really had charisma and I found the Boxtrolls likeable, but I was also a bit annoyed by the little girl with her father and the members of the cheese club. All in all, a mediocre film that impresses mostly by the way it looks, but doesn't leave much more in the viewer's mind (at least in mine).

The first minute of the animation didn't really captivate me, after all, stop motion puppet animation is not something that is so common nowadays. I am even more glad for it. Especially when it comes to a good story. This one is fantastic, imaginative, self-sufficient, and meaningful. It has emotions, great characters, and a packed plot. I was thrilled and enjoyed the movie.
