My Sweet Pepperland

A Kurdish sheriff, Baran, decides to re-establish order in a border area where people make their living by drug smuggling, and sheriffs have a rather short career. A local gang of smugglers thus has to fight the former war hero who isn't willing to lower his moral principles. The story of absurdly presented honour and justice is set in an area near the Turkish-Iraqi border, reflecting the consequences of Saddam Hussein's overthrow while pointing out the discrepancy between the traditional and modern concepts of justice and its authorities. Hiner Saleem, a director of Iraqi origin, uses elements of the western genre, which is unusually complemented by Elvis Presley's songs and roguish humour. (Febiofest)
