As an ingredient in the mixture of cement, asbestos became a popular mineral in the late 19th century due to its properties that provide fire insulation and strength. Its health hazards became evident early after the turn of the century when a form of lung and abdominal cancer, mesothelioma, was first diagnosed. Mining asbestos never ceased, though. Dust follows a recent trial where the managers of a multinational corporation were accused for deaths in the small town of Casale Monferrato in Northern Italy. The managers were indicted for over 3000 deaths of factory workers and their children. While a grandmother describes to the court her daughter's painful death in Turin, Indian workers are stacking toxic plates of cement in wage slavery and with no protective gear at all.
