Maggie Conlan (Crissy Rock) is a unmarried mother. She had four children from four different men, that she left because they all beat her. The only night she left her children alone at home, they are hurt by a fire. So the social services take them away. She unsuccessfully fights to have them back. One day, she meets Jorge (Vladimir Vega), a man that will simply love her without violence, and it seems she will now have a normal happy family life. But their new-born baby is also confiscated by the social services... Based on a true story. (British Film Institute (BFI))

Ken Loach is a very good critic of human society, especially working class society, and he can eke out stories from it that can be appealing and that are to some extent surprising in the form they take. Ladybird Ladybird is definitely one of these, and it is a film that has a very strong impact on the viewer.
