Although a significant part of the episode takes place during a pre-Christmas meeting with his daughter in Las Vegas, I didn't mind at all. The characters in the series are not flat and they have depth thanks to such digressions. I think Bosch had to deal with a dilemma after Waites' phone call, whether this person has phenomenal memory for numbers or is obsessed with personal hygiene.
