In the week of the book an interview is made with the writer Péter Simon, whose first book of short stories appeared in the prime of his life. He drinks champaign with his girl-friend and the next day he sets out with his wife on a weekend trip. He takes with him his indispensible umbrella, his briefcase, his palm-tree and his book containing poems of Attila József. While driving, his Lada slips off the road, and, ending up in a strange settlement, they get involved in a series of horroristic events developing around them. His wife leaves in time, along with his lover, who had turned up previously and nearly been strangled, but the writer is seized, next to him someone's wife is killed and dug in the earth, he himself is raped, to be subsequently turned out. With his umbrella, briefcase, palm-tree and book of poetry, Simon walks down the dirt roads, ignorant of where and why. (Budapest Film)
