The story of a love-triangle takes place at the borderline of an agricultural farming and an industrial area. Rigó Gazsi, a man whose wife has left him, watches the beautiful and lonely Eta toiling on the neighbouring farm from the tower of an oil-platform in the Great Hungarian Plain. The husband of the childless young woman works in Budapest. Eta lives under the careful scrutiny of his father-in-law. Initially she refuses, but later she devotedly succumbs to the help and love of the homeless oil-miner. Her husband, who returns to his wife for the week-ends, understands the reasons for his wife's changed behaviour, and once even catches the lovers. Yet he does not blame his wife. Instead, he asks for employment at the local oil-company. Eta decides to stay by him, and the disappointed Gazsi joins the drilling team searching for new oil deposits.
