Throughout the entire film, I kept wondering if James Franco was serious about his acting performance because I had a feeling that it was all a parody of his colleagues' performances, who are trying to portray disabled individuals. Franco obviously has a great liking for American authors of the last century, but that certainly doesn't mean he knows how to translate them into film. ()
